Huntsman Teases New Hampshire on Saturday Night Live
By Gregory W. Wallace (@gregorywallace)
FRANCESTOWN, N.H. — Presidential hopeful Jon Huntsman has focused nearly exclusively on campaigning in New Hampshire, but tonight he took a moment off the Granite State campaign trail to give the state a shout out on Saturday Night Live.
In the Weekend Update segment — a humorous take on the day’s news — Huntsman, reading from a teleprompter, dropped multiple New Hampshire references in a two minute, thirty second cameo appearance.
“Seth, I love all of this country, from Dallas, Texas to Manchester, New Hampshire,” Huntsman said. “From the majestic Rocky Mountains to New Hampshire’s scenic lake WInnepesaukee. From the innovation of Silicone Valley to the affordable outlet malls of North Conway, New Hampshire.”
Picking up on Huntsman’s repeated New Hampshire references, the host asked if he was too singularly focused. “I would never tie myself to one state,” Huntsman said. “I like to spread my wings and fly like the Purple Finch.”
Within a few minutes of the speech, his name began trending on Twitter (though spelled “John” rather than “Jon”).
Huntsman asked Myers, who attended high school in Manchester and whose parents live in the state New Hampshire, about their voting habits.
“My mom is a Democrat and my father is a registered independent,” Myers said.
Huntsman’s response: “Tell you dad ‘hi’ for me.”
