Romney Lands Endorsement from Young State Legislator

By Gregory W. Wallace (gww@primaryinsider.com)

Mitt Romney this week landed the endorsement of a young conservative leader in the state, D.J. Bettencourt, Republican of Salem.

Mr. Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, gives Republicans “the absolute best chance at winning back the White House, he told Politico, and handled his state’s politics well.

“I have tremendous respect for Gov. Perry. I think he’s a very attractive candidate. But I think Gov. Romney's experience in Massachusetts best suits him to take on the challenges of the country,” Mr. Bettencourt said. “It’s difficult to be a conservative governor in a liberal state such as Massachusetts. Washington is going to be a real challenge to maneuver.”

Mr. Bettencourt is the majority leader of the New Hampshire state House.

MANCHESTER—As the government jobs report this morning showed no growth in employment, former Utah governor Jon M. Huntsman Jr. said the economic plan he announced this week fills a void left by President Barack Obama.

“I think this economy is sucking wind big time,” he said. “We need a plan, we need a bold proposal. The President has had two and a half years to get something out there. He hasn’t. We’ve been in two and a half months we’ve got I think the boldest of proposals which is what this country desperately needs. We’re pitching it out to the people of New Hampshire and I like our chances.”

Mr. Huntsman was touring a Manchester manufacturer this morning, where he pitched his economic proposal to receptive employees.
